Te Māngai Pāho welcomes the commitment of $42 million for Māori media announced as part of Budget 2021 today.
“The investment announced today ensures our sector, independent content creators, Māori Television and iwi radio, can continue to produce innovative, local, Māori content for all New Zealanders,” Kaihautū of Te Māngai Pāho, Larry Parr says.
“Māori media is a major contributor to revitalising te reo Māori, encouraging the use of te reo Māori and telling stories from a Māori perspective.”
“We know that making quality reo Māori available to all New Zealanders is making a marked impact on the status the language has in our society.”
“In these constrained and somewhat uncertain times, we welcome the Government's commitment, which will provide stability for Māori Television, iwi radio and the wider Māori media community,” Mr Parr says.
